Albert F. – Harold A. Herd Memorial Moore Post 184 of the American Legion in Moore, Oklahoma, is named in honor of two long-time members: Albert F. (1893–1982), born in Fort Bend, Texas, and Harold A. “Sarge” Herd (1927–2013). Sarge, born in St. Louis, Missouri, grew up attending Moore schools and became known for his lifelong dedication to serving fellow veterans. A devoted member of Post 184, he and his wife, Letha Bruce, were married for 59 years and raised two children, Kevin Herd and Karen McElrath.

Post 184 remains deeply engaged in the community, offering substantial support to veterans and their families. Its efforts include assistance with disability claims, suicide-prevention advocacy through the American Legion’s “Be the One” campaign, and youth programs such as Boys State. Together with its auxiliary, Unit 184, the post maintains a strong presence both locally and online, regularly sharing its events and outreach activities.
